Fees

Australian Universities charge full-cost fees for international students. Australian students make a contribution to the cost of their education in publicly-supported universities by incurring a tax liability. Thus, the Australian taxpayer subsidy to Australian students does not extend to international students. Fees for international students vary depending on the level and course of study, with tuition ranging from $A4,000 to $A10,000 for one semester of study.

Association Grants

One source of financial aid for students is through a private foundation. Each foundation normally has established criteria, and usually it is possible for students to qualify for, and receive, more than one grant. Some of these are listed below.

International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS)

The purpose of the International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) Scheme is to attract top quality overseas postgraduate students to areas of research strength in higher education institutions and to support Australia's research effort.

Prospective students apply directly to the institution of their choice. When seeking enrolment, they should indicate their interest in applying for an IPRS. The institution will then provide appropriate application forms. The closing date for applications is set by individual institutions. Most institutions will set a closing date in September or October, but some may require that applications be submitted earlier. Applications must be sent to the institutions at which study is to taking place.

Target Groups / Scholarship Provisions & Benefits

The scholarships will be available for either PhD or Masters level overseas students who will undertake quality research (fundamental or applied) in areas of research specialization in individual institutions. The scholarships cover tuition fees and health insurance premiums only, and will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and research capacity.
