The Australian Education Office is a US non-profit with the mission of enhancing all forms of educational links between Australia and North America. The Office, located in the Embassy of Australia, Washington, DC, receives the majority of its funding from Australian universities and undertakes the generic promotion of study in Australia as well as providing services to its Australian member universities.

The Executive Director is responsible for managing the Office, including budgets, personnel, and annual and strategic plans. The position reports to the AEO's Board of Directors.

The successful candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of US, Australian and Canadian higher education with a particular focus on international education and study abroad. Candidates should have a master's degree and a minimum of five years experience in international / higher education. Other desired qualifications include management and budgeting experience, and a knowledge of marketing and promotion.

Position Description: Executive Director

Background:

The Australian Education Office (AEO) a US non-profit located within the Embassy of Australia is seeking an Executive Director. The Executive Director will be accountable to the Board of Directors for implementing the AEO mission and vision:

To develop an enhance the bilateral relationships between Australia on the one hand, and Canada and the United States on the other, by creating and fostering all forms of educational links. The realization of this mission will ensure the emergence of a generation of North Americans and of Australians who have had research, teaching, learning or administrative experience in Australia and North America.

Duties:

Management of the Company's finances, assets and personnel
Planning, including but not restricted to an annual business plan, budget, and five-year strategic plan.
Liaison with US based programs sending students to Australia, including IDP: Education Australia, to achieve a maximum cooperative relationship.
Liaison with Australian government offices within the Embassy and Australia, particularly with the immigration office in Washington to maintain positive service outcome for students.
Management of the Company's technology resources.
Management of a dedicated communication network with Australian education institutions and other affiliated bodies.
Liaison with Australian member universities.
General promotion of Australian education in North America

Essential Criteria for the Position:

In-depth knowledge of both the North American and Australian higher education systems.
Strong understanding of study abroad, exchange, and the field of international education.
Experience developing business plans and budgets and managing personnel and other resources.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Proven track record of successful liaison and negotiation skills
Masters degree with at least five year's relevant work experience
