Description:
The course screens and analyzes the best Australian films ever made, with special emphasis on the 1970's and 1980's "renaissance" of young, inventive filmmakers including Bruce Bereford (Breaker Morant), Peter Weir (The Last Wave) and George Miller (Mad Max). There will also be a look at the Melbourne "Underground" scene and expressive films, women directors, including Gillian Armstrong (My Brilliant Career) and Jane Champion (The Piano), some of the forerunners of Australian cinema. All students will hold a day and night pass for the internationally renowned Sydney Film Festival which occurs in June. Students will also learn non-technical, non-hands-on introduction to the responsibilities with film production.
