The Doonooch Dancers, an Aboriginal dance troupe from Nowra, New South Wales in Australia, will offer a program of traditional dance, story telling and music at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 12, at the Bunn Intercultural Center Auditorium at Georgetown University. The program is co-sponsored by the Center for Australian and New Zealand Studies at Georgetown and the Australia America Association in Washington, DC. Tickets are $10.
Reflecting the Aboriginal culture which dates back more than 40,000 years, the Doonooch Dancers use sound and movement to tell the ancient Dreamtime stories. Learn the legends of the Rainbow Serpent that rules the Earth as reflected in the rhythms of the haunting clapsticks, the unusual didgeridoo and the stomping of feet that are part of this art form.
Parking is available for $3 after 7 p.m. in Lot 3 which can be accessed via Canal Road or Prospect Street.
